Disputes over life insurance can come up during the life of the insured person or when a beneficiary makes a claim on the policy. We assist people who have a dispute with a life insurance company or insurance agent about their own insurance policy. Typical disputes include misrepresentations made during the sale of the policy, and lapse or termination of a policy for non-payment of premium without the insurance company providing proper notification.
We also represent people whose claims for life insurance benefits have been denied. Even if the claim is accepted and face value is paid, policies often contain other benefits that do not get paid, such as money to support a young person’s education or a spouse’s preparation to enter the job market.
If the insurance policy was obtained through a private employer, it is most likely subject to federal law called “ERISA.” More information is available on our ERISA practice page and FAQs page.
